KARACHI: Akram Lahori acquitted, two awarded death
KARACHI, April 28: An anti-terrorism court here on Saturday acquitted the chief of the banned outfit Lashkar-i-Jhangvi, Mian Mohammed Ajmal, better known as Akram Lahori, in a murder case and awarded death sentence to two other accused in the same case.The ATC-5 headed by Judge Haq Nawaz Baloch convicting the two accused —Attaullah and Mohammad Azam — also handed down the death penalty to both.
The three accused were facing charges for killing Sadiq Ali Hamshiri in his bakery on March 2, 2002 at Kharadar. The deceased was a trustee of the Hussainian Iranian Imambargah, Kharadar.
Giving the benefit ofdoubt to Akram Lahori, the ATC Judge acquitted him while awarding death to the two other accused for firing on the victim.
The ATC-5 judge conducted the trial inside the Central Prison Karachi (CPK).—APP
