Protesting students punished by police: Corporal punishment

SAHIWAL, April 27: Police baton-charged on Friday students of a school, injured eight students and arrested 10 others for protesting a school headmaster who had allegedly broken the right arm of a student on Thursday.
Students were holding demonstration outside the office of Main Sohaib Imran, education executive district officer, demanding police action against the headmaster when police baton-charged them.
Javed Bashir of Batala Muslim High School caned Tanveer leaving his arm fractured. It enraged his fellows who approached police for the registration of a case against Mr Bashir but failed.
On Friday, hundreds of the students held demonstration outside the office of the EDO, blocked the road and raised slogans against the headmaster.
Police in a bid to disperse the students baton-charged them and injured Saleem, Shafiq, Asad, Haroon, Ahmed Ali, Farooq Azam, Hafiz Zameerul Hasan and Hakimullah. Police also arrested 10 students and detained them in the police lockup of Fateh Sher police station.
Education EDO Imran has constituted an inquiry committee to probe into the matter and transferred the headmaster and three teachers Ghulam Murtaza Saghla, Muhammad Amin and Rai Muhammad Zafar from the school.
CASE: Following court’s orders, police registered a case against a police inspector, an assistant sub-inspector (ASI) and four constables for looting a shopkeeper.
On February 17, Farooq Kamiana, station house officer of Fateh Sher police station, ASI Muhammad Nawaz, four constables and two civilians allegedly snatched Rs223,800 from shopkeeper Shahid Javed of Haidri Mohalla.
The shopkeeper filed a petition in the court of the additional district judge which ordered police to register a case against the accused.
