KARACHI: 75 deprived of vehicles, phones

KARACHI, April 27: As many as 75 people were deprived of their cars, motorcycles, or cellphones in various localities of the city on Friday.

According to police, 24 vehicles — 14 cars and 10 motorcycles — were either hijacked or stolen in several areas. One car was hijacked and 13 others stolen while five motorcycles were taken away at gunpoint and an equal number were stolen.

BOMB DEFUSED: Police found a bomb, weighing about one kilogram with a detonator, alongside a road near an eatery in Federal B Area, here on Friday.

People present at a roadside eatery noticed a suspicious object and informed the police, who reached the spot. The police called the bomb disposal squad. The squad defused the homemade bomb. However, the police failed to immediately ascertain the type of explosive.
