Karzai shrugs off Musharraf barbs

Published April 27, 2007

KABUL, April 26: Afghan President Hamid Karzai said on Thursday he was going into a meeting with President Pervez Musharraf to ‘find solutions’ to mounting Taliban unrest even after Gen Musharraf appeared to call him a ‘liar’.

The two leaders are to meet under the mediation of Turkey from Sunday.

Asked at a media briefing about the label of liar, Mr Karzai said: “Yes, he has mentioned me. We will attend this meeting with good intentions to find a solution to a problem which is gripping Afghanistan, Pakistan and the region. We hope to come with good achievements. We hope to have achievements for peace in the region, peace in Afghanistan and Pakistan, from the tripartite meeting.”—AFP
