CHITRAL, April 22: Wheat bags were distributed among the avalanche-hit people of Washich, Momi and Garam Chashma on Sunday by the Jamaat-e-Islami (JI).

A total of 1,038 bags were distributed.

More than 60 houses were destroyed by an avalanche last month and widespread snowfall had also partially damaged thousands of homes across the district.

Local MNA Abdul Akbar Chitrali and district ameer of JI Ghulam Mohammad supervised the distribution.

Talking to Dawn, Maulana Akbar said that Qazi Hussain Ahmed had granted Rs one million while the Islamic Mission of United Kingdom (UK) had contributed Rs500,000 for the affected people.

He said that the wheat had been purchased from godowns of the food department, adding that the needy people would also be given cash.
