DADU: Kachho area in grip of gastroenteritis: 40 admitted to hospital

DADU, April 22: At least 40 people, including children and women, were admitted to the Taluka Hospital Khairpur Nathan Shah, after contracting gastroenteritis in different villages of the taluka on Sunday.

Most of the patients belonged to Karmik, Katchrik, Jiwan Rustamani, Ahmed Rustamani, Sheikh Noti, Rajo Dero, Saindad, Mian Naseer Mohammad, Bago Chandio, Hadio Chandio, and Ladhan of Kachho.

The cause of gastroenteritis is stated to be polluted water and heat wave. The condition of 16 patients, including Taha Bibi 8, Hakimzadi 8, Yaqoob 30, Junaid 18 months, Mehran 3, Baby Sumera 5, Asma 7, Tania 12 months, Irum 20, Imamzadi 40, Gulab, Ali Nawaz, Roshan , Mehran, Jabbar and Razia, is said to be serious.

A patient Fatima said that the hospital administration was only providing drips while “we are purchasing costly medicines from the market”.

The Medical Superintendent of the Taluka Hospital, Roshan Channa, however, contested patients’ statement and said that medicines for gastroenteritis were available in the hospital in a large quantity.

TENSION: An uneasy calm prevailed between Nazim UC Rehmani Nagar Town and residents of Shabbir Chandio Village, located close to Rehmani Nagar on Sunday, after issuance of eviction notices to 60 houses.

The notices were issued on Saturday by the Nazim of UC Rehmani Nagar, Waheed Chandio, declaring the houses as encroachments and said that the property belonged to union council.

He also sought assistance of the Rehmani Nagar police to carry out anti-encroachment drive.

The police also raided the houses on Saturday night and Sunday evening and arrested ten villagers, including Ghulam Abbas, Ali Nawaz, Zafar, Mohammad Mithal and others.

The villagers also held staged a demonstration against the UC Nazim which was led by Shabbir Ahmed Channa on Sunday and raised slogans against police and the UC Nazim.

They demanded of the Sindh chief minister to take action against UC Nazim and police officials.

The UC Nazim, Waheed Chandio, said that only encroachments were being removed and denied that any of the villager was tortured.

CLASH: Approximately 24 people received injuries in an armed clash between two groups of Khoso clan over an old enmity in Sanghar Khoso village, Jamshoro district on Saturday night. Guns and axes were freely used during the clash.

Jalaluddin, Mohammad Nawaz, Shahzad Ali, Dilbar Khan, Nale Chango, and Ahmed Nawaz were injured.

The two groups again clashed after a respite as a result of which Sakina, Bai, Seema Bibi, Bakhtawar, Nabi Bux, Amir Hassan, Niaz Hussain, Abdul Rauf, Ghulam Qadir, Ahmed Hussain, Mehdi Hassan, Abdul Razzaq, Yaseen, Karam Hussain, Noor Nabi, Aslam, Niaz and Noor . All the injured were admitted in LUMHS hospital.

According to Khanote police, the clash took place over a matrimonial dispute. Police arrested 15 people from both groups after registration of case.

PROTECTION SOUGHT: A newly-wed couple, Sakina Solangi 22, and Nizamuddin Solangi, of Oderolal, who got married against the will of their family elders, have sought intervention of higher authorities to give them protection.

Talking to newsmen here at the local press club, Sakina said that she had married of her free will with Nizam Solangi but some influential people were trying to separate them and they were exerting pressure over her to leave Nizam. She further said their relatives were threatening that if they did not end this wedlock, “we will be killed on the pretext of karo-kari.”
