LARKANA, April 22: Two policemen were killed by bandits in two different ambushes in the jurisdiction of Ratodero and Naudero police late Saturday night and a bandit was gunned down by police in an encounter on Sunday.
A police van escorting a wedding party going to Larkana came under fire at Zangejo Bridge on Larkana-Raotdero road.
Van driver, constable Mohbat Bhatti of Ratodero police, was killed on the spot and policemen Shahid Rehman Korejo and Ashiq Ali Afro were injured.
They were taken to the Chandra Medical College Hospital where the condition of Mr Korejo was stated to be critical.
In another incident that took place soon after, a van of the Kati Mutes police station was ambushed on Naudero-Ratodero road at Sims Shah.
Constable Basher Ahmed Magneto died on the spot and the vehicle overturned, causing injuries to SHO Abdul Ghana and policemen Guam Hussain Bhutto and Mustafa China.
They were taken to the hospital where they were admitted.
A heavy police contingent along with foot trackers launched a search for the assailants.
On early Sunday morning, an encounter took place at Ando Wahl near Rhoda village in the Naudero area in which a dacoit identified as Siobhan Mario was killed. A Kalashnikov was recovered from his possession.
Another dacoit was injured in the attack but he was taken away by his accomplices, sources said, adding bloodstains were seen near Izzat-ji- Wandh village.
Hazooran Narejo, the mother of Subhan Narejo, collected his body from the Naudero police station and took it to Garhi Mori in Khairpur district.
Subhan Narejo was a member of a gang of bandits led by Amir Narejo, sources said.
DIG, Larkana, Akhtar Gorchani, who attended the funeral of constable Mohbat Bhatti in Ratodero, announced Rs500,000 compensation for the heirs of each killed policeman.
Constable Bashir Mangnejo was buried in Sabo Kartiyo village.
