NAWABSHAH, April 21: Nawabshah chapter of the Pakistan Muslim League (Functional) on Friday handed over its two workers to police for their reported involvement in the kidnapping of a trader and his friend.

Sikandar Hayat Rind, organizer, PML-F, Nawabshah, held a meeting with the SP, Investigation, in his office and handed over two of party workers, Mehboob Ali alias Mohib Jamali and his brother Mujahid Jamali.

The two activists are alleged to be involved in the kidnapping of Ashok Kumar and Saleem Solangi from Wer stop near Sakrand some 24 days back.

Later, Mr Rind told journalists that Mohib and his brother were not involved in any kidnapping case.

He alleged that Nawabshah police on the directives of an influential landlord and a local leader of the PML has implicated them in the case. He further said that the same PML leader had lost the seat of a union council nazim in Kumbh Leema against the PML-F.

He demanded of the Sindh chief minister and the police chief to conduct an enquiry into the matter. DPO Dr Ghulam Sarwar Jamali told Dawn that the two accused were allegedly involved in harbouring criminals.

He further said that police conducted raids at their village and recovered police uniforms and arms.

The SP investigation, Syed Ghayasuddin Rashidi, confirming the arrests, said that Mohib and Mujahid were wanted in many cases and were also involved in harbouring criminals namely Nisar, Babu and Munir alias Mulazim Hussain Jakhar who were wanted in more than 25 cases of murder, kidnapping, highway robberies and car lifting in Khairpur, Larkana and Dadu districts.

Reliable sources told Dawn that a joint team comprising officials of two top intelligence agencies would interrogate the arrested persons.

Meanwhile, Sakrand police have registered the kidnapping case of the trader and his friend after 24 days on Friday.

Chandra Ram, brother of Ashok Kumar, lodged an FIR with Sakrand police against four unidentified persons. The police conducted raids and have also arrested some persons.

Meanwhile, the DPO Nawabshah suspended the SHO, A-section, due to his failure to control crime.

HEARING ADJOURNED: District and sessions judge Nawabshah adjourned the hearing on bail application of an accused of Rasool Bux Brohi murder case here on Saturday.

District and sessions judge Ghulam Qadir Leghari adjourned the hearing on the bail application of Chaudhry Aslam, suspended SP and former in-charge, Lyari Task Force, and an accused in Rasool Bux Brohi murder case, till April 26.

Nazar Mohammed alias Nazru Khaskheli and Sahib Chandio submitted their bail application and the hearing would be held on April 23. The hearing of the case would be held on May 7.

Rasool Bux Brohi, a labourer, was allegedly killed in a fake encounter by Lyari Task Force in 2006.

BODY FOUND: Body of a 40-year-old man was found from Sim Nullah near Rohri Canal on Friday night.

The body was taken to Nawabshah Medical College Hospital by taluka police for post mortem. The body remained unclaimed till the filing of this report.

BOOKED: Nineteen persons were booked for electricity theft and attacking Hesco officials on Friday.

Ghulam Hyder Channa, Line Superintendent, Hesco, Sakrand, lodged an FIR under section 39-A, Electricity Act, and 353, 504, 337-F-1, 342, 147 and 148, PPC, at Sakrand police station against 19 persons namely Rehemdil, Moula Bux, Ali Nawaz, Qurban Shah alias Babu and 15 unidentified, stating that he along with the staff was on a routine checking and upon reaching Murad Ali Shah village they found illegal connections.

He further stated that when the team tried to remove illegal connections, the accused attacked them with axes and clubs and beat them severely. No arrest was made till the filing of this report.
