Countrywide protests

ISLAMABAD, April 18: Lawyers, supporters of various opposition parties and representatives of civil society organisations held demonstrations and rallies across the country on Wednesday to express solidarity with Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry.

Thousands of people gathered in front of the Supreme Court.

Lawyers observed complete strike and held protest rallies in Karachi, Peshawar Lahore, Gujranwala, Sheikhupura, Sialkot, Gujrat, Sargodha, Kasur, Hafizabad, Sahiwal, Pakpattan, Pindi Bhattian, Chiniot, Jaranwala, Shorkot and other cities. Workers and leaders of the PPP, MMA, PTI, PML-N, ANP and other opposition parties joined the protest.
