SAHIWAL, April 18: Two dacoits were killed and a police constable injured in an encounter here on Tuesday night near Chak 138/9-L. Reports said UC-66 nazim Sardar Asif Karim Dogar was returning to his Chak 162/9-L by a car (LRH-707) from Bahadar Shah village when four robbers riding two motorcycles stopped the vehicle. They drove away with the car after throwing the nazim at a deserted place.

On receiving information, the Noorshah police chased the dacoits. On seeing the police, the accused opened fire. During a shootout, Mushtaq Ahmad of Noorshah and Liaquat of Chak 60/SP Arifwala were killed on the spot while their two accomplices managed to escape. Constable Muhammad Arshad suffered injuries in the encounter.

He was admitted to DHQ hospital and the DPO has promoted him to the rank of head constable.

A case has been registered.

COUNTERFEIT NOTES: Sahiwal police during a raid on Wednesday recovered counterfeit currency notes of Rs1,000 and RS500 denominations worth Rs148,500 and arrested two accused. Reports said Muhammad Siddiq and Abdul Hamid carrying counterfeit notes were standing at Chak 168-9L bus stop for going to Chichawatni to market the currency when a police team arrested them.

Ghaziabad police have registered a case under sections 489-J and B and got physical remand of the accused.
