KARACHI: ANP demand re-polling

Published April 18, 2007

KARACHI, April 17: The Awami National Party, alleging rigging on a big scale in the by-election held on April 2 in the UC-2, Baldia Town, has demanded that the results be declared null and void and fresh election be held there.

Addressing a press conference at the press club here on Tuesday, ANP leader Rana Gul Afridi and the party’s candidates Mohammad Din Shah and Sajad Hussain Shah, along with PPP’s Abdul Qadir Patel and others, claimed that they had noticed fake ballot papers being stuffed in ballot boxes on the polling day.

They said that they had also filed objections with the returning officer who had fixed April 19 for hearing of all such objections.

ANP supporters from the UC-2 had converged on the press club and staged a noisy demo raising slogans for re-polling.
