KARACHI, April 16: A fine century by Mohammad Hafeez helped Punjab pile up 387 for four on the second day of the Pentangular Cup match against NWFP-Balochistan at the National Stadium here on Monday.
Hafeez made an even 100 to lead a batting onslaught after Punjab started the day at 30 for one. In the 90 overs available, Punjab scored 357 for the loss of three wickets in reply to the combined regional side’s paltry first-innings score of 191.
Hafeez, who struck 20 boundaries in his 132-ball innings, and night-watchman Imran Khalid (66 off 139 balls, 12 fours) added 137 for the second wicket.
After both of them were out, Punjab lost Nasir Jamshed for 11. But skipper Misbah-ul-Haq and Naved Latif then came together to put on another 157 at better than run-a-minute. Misbah’s 171-ball 86 included nine fours while the aggressive Naved spanked six fours and three sixes in making 84 off 117 deliveries in 117 minutes.
