Three accused in loudspeaker case get bail

By Our Correspondent

MANSEHRA, April 16: Three members of a mosque’s administration arrested here on Monday on charges of using loudspeakers illegally during the Shan-i-Mustafa conference held on April 4 were released on bail.

A lawyer said police had registered a case under the Loudspeaker Act against five members of the Masjid Aqsa committee.

On Monday, police arrested three members of the committee -- Anwar Shah, Farman Ali Shah and Ali Mardan -- but they were released on bail by local courts.

The lawyer said these were the first arrests made under the act in Mansehra.

Farman Ali, amir of Jamaat-i-Islami in City Union Council-2, termed the arrests part of a conspiracy against the Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal’s provincial government. “It is impossible for a cleric to desist from preaching on the loudspeakers in the mosques and no government can ban,” he said. Mansehra JI amir Younas Khatak condemned the arrests.
