KARACHI: Flats for all city govt employees under study

By Our Staff Reporter

KARACHI, April 16: The city government is considering a proposal on construction of apartments for its employees through public-private partnership in order to provide them better housing facilities.

The proposal was discussed at a meeting which was chaired by City Nazim Syed Mustafa Kamal and attended by city government officials and representatives of the Association of Builders and Developers (Abad).

The nazim said that the city government, in collaboration with the private sector, could construct two, three and four-room apartments for allotment to the employees and recover the cost from the allottees in instalments.

Lands measuring 250 acres were available for the scheme in Gulistan-i-Jauhar, Surjani Town and Baldia Town. He observed that in the first phase, the scheme could be initiated in Baldia Town.

However, it was decided at the meeting that a committee comprising EDO Revenue and EDO Finance would be formed to evaluate the proposal and prepare a report before taking a final decision.

He directed the officers to complete the process by the end of this month taking into account all rules and regulations.

Mr Kamal was of the view that Abad might undertake execution of the project and handle the recovery of the instalments from the officers and other employees, who would be allotted the apartments on a rate lower than the market rates.

He directed the officers to prepare lists of the city government employees from grade-1 to 20 to facilitate the procedure.
