LAHORE, April 15: Fancied English bay mare Grecianette, ridden by Shahid Rehman, lived up to her star billing with a comfortable win in the Neelum Cup, ran over 1600 metres, during the Lahore Winter Meeting at the Racecourse on Sunday.

Owned by Syed Pervaiz Hussain Shah and trained by Sohail Aziz, the mare beat Miss Thailand by one-and-a-half lengths in this fifth race of the day.

Total Surprise and Lucky Winner finished third and fourth respectively.

Grecianette ended the day on a pleasant note for jockey Shahid Rehman, who completed a treble. He had also piloted home Handsome Hope and Spiritual Song in the first two races.

A race earlier, long shot Desert Queen ran ahead of the field to claim the Spring Cup which was run over 1300 metres. The winner beat Mama Mia by eight lengths with Volcano and fruity completing the frame. Favourite Rough Tough ran off the frame.

Bay filly Nosheen, owned by Asif Ali Khan, caused the biggest upset of the day by winning the sixth and last race of the day.

She beat Zanjeer by about two lengths clocking one minute 13 4/5 seconds over the sprinting distance of 1200 metres.

The best performer of the day was three-year-old bay colt Handsome Hope who scored his first win defeating bay colt Zoaq by a street's margin in the first race of the day.

Malik Asad Nawaz Kohawar-owned Prince of Bhakkar proved its mettle by winning the third race of the day, the Hyderabad Plate Class-IV Division-III, which ran over 1200 metres.

Trainer Sohail Aziz sent out two winners — Handsome Hope and Grecianette — in the first and fifth race of the day.
