KARACHI: Ibad reviews law, order situation


KARACHI, April 13: The efforts being made to control crimes and the obtaining law and order situation was reviewed at a meeting held under the chairmanship of Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad Khan on Friday.

The governor took strict notice of violence against media personnel during a lawyers’ rally taken out on Friday and asked the concerned authorities to take action in the matter and ensure an environment in which journalists could perform their professional duties without any hindrance.

He made it clear that the government believed in freedom of expression and the media had never enjoyed such freedom in the past.

Taking notice of law and order, the governor emphasised on maintaining regularity in the efforts towards elimination of crimes and particularly stressed on an effective strategy for weeding out street crimes and gambling, betting and narcotic dens.

He called for seeking the cooperation of people and keeping the intelligence network actively functional.

He also issued directive for maintaining strict watch on crimes like robberies and kidnappings in the interior of Sindh.

Meanwhile, the retiring Inspector General of Police Jehangir Mirza had a farewell call on the governor.

Ishratul Ibad appreciated his efforts during his posting in the province.—APP
