KARACHI: Suo motu notice sought

KARACHI, April 11: The Pakistan People’s Party has appealed the Supreme Court of Pakistan to take suo motu notice of a statement given by Federal Minister for Religious Affairs Ijazul Haq in which he reportedly admitted connection to the religious extremists and having provided them relief at the official level.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, PPP leaders Khursheed Ahmed Shah, Taj Haider and Nawab Yousuf Talpur said unfortunately General Zia’s son Ijazul Haq had been made the minister for religious affairs by the military government so that his connections to extremist organisations could be used to the benefit of the undemocratic regime.—Staff Reporter
