KARACHI: 2 bandits killed, cops injured in shootout

KARACHI, April 10: Two dacoits were killed and two policemen were injured in a shootout in North Nazimabad on Tuesday.
Police said five dacoits barged into the house of a custom officer in Block-H. The intruders held the inmates hostage at gunpoint and looted Rs35,000 and jewellery.
Inspector Manzar Imam of the Haideri police post told Dawn that a labourer, who was working on the rooftop of a nearby bungalow, informed the police about the presence of the dacoits in the custom officer’s house. Police reached the spot and surrounded the house.
Constable Arif Javed entered the house and challenged the dacoits who opened fire at him. In the meantime, Head Constable Sabir, who was on the rooftop, jumped in. In the shootout, two dacoits were gunned down and the two policemen were injured while three dacoits escaped under the cover of fire.
Inspector Imam said the police seized two TT pistols, looted cash and jewellery.
GANG BUSTED: Police smashed a gang of bandits in Landhi and arrested seven gangsters, including the ringleader, on Tuesday.
Landhi police said the gang was involved in robberies, murder, attempt to murder and carjacking. The suspects were identified as Mohammed Ali alias Ustad alias Bodi, ringleader, Rizwan Khan, Jamal Khan, Ijaz Lashari, Mohammed Farhan, Mohammed Khalid Khan and Muneer Ahmed alias Raju.
Police seized a Kalashnikov, five pistols, a 222 rifle, 27 celllphones, jewellery and a car from their possession.
