KARACHI, April 10: People from many areas of the city complained of intermittent and prolonged power suspensions on Tuesday.
Some of the complainants said they experienced breakdowns spanning more than two hours twice or thrice during daytime while many others said they suffered a two-hour power suspension the previous night.
However, the KESC spokesman, when contacted, said the situation had improved with the restoration of 50 megawatt power supply from Karachi Nuclear Power Plant (KANPP), which was suspended on Saturday. The Wapda was supplying 550 out of 650 MW at present and the total shortfall was about 200 MW, he said adding that the notified group-wise loadshedding was one and a half hours.
Complaints of power breakdowns were received from Defence, Zamzama, Punjab Colony, Malir, Korangi, Bhittai Colony, North Karachi and North Nazimabad Block 4, FC Area, Raja Tanveer Colony Orangi Town, Keamari, Sultanabad, Lyari, Old Sabzimandi area, Gulistan-i-Jauhar, Light House, Bohri Bazaar, I.I. Chundrigar Road, Dr Ziauddin Ahmad Road, Clifton, Shah Faisal Colony and Gulshan-i-Iqbal.
A caller from Clifton Block-4 said power supply was suspended thrice a day. She said power supply was also suspended for two hours the previous night. Criticising the KESC management, she said they blame others for the power failures while it was solely their responsibility to ensure uninterrupted power supply to the citizens.
From Baghdadi, a complainant said there had been no respite from the prolonged breakdowns despite several complaints having been lodged with the KESC complaint cell. Complaints of prolonged power suspensions were also received from Kumharwara, Bakra Mandi and Kalakot.
In Gulistan-i-Jauhar, power suspension for two or three hours had become order of the day, a resident complained.
