KARACHI: City govt employs 120 vehicles for cleanliness

KARACHI: April 9: City Nazim Syed Mustafa Kamal said that the city government had started the work of cleaning 19 main roads and corridors from Monday to improve the sanitary condition of the city in the first phase.
He stated this while talking to journalists, town and union nazims at the handing over ceremony of the keys of 120 vehicles to municipal services department in Gulshan-i-Jinnah (old Polo Ground).
The nazim said that it was the first time in the history of Karachi that a huge amount had been spent at once on this sector to improve the sanitary condition of the city.
The corridors we have selected, goes through every area and every town of the city therefore it can be said that we have taken over the control of a major part of the city, he added.
He said that the city government had decided to take up the work of cleaning of main roads and important corridors of the city while town and union administration to take the responsibility of cleaning of inner city and other small areas
The municipal services department of the city government will perform the task. For the purpose 120 vehicles worth Rs720 million were handed over to the department while 46 vehicles and machinery will also be given to the department later.
Town and Union administration will ensure cleanliness in the inner areas of the city.
These measures will bring about significant change in the condition of the city within 15 days.
