KARACHI, April 9: City Naib Nazim Nasrin Jalil has said that the efforts of all those organizations and people who are fighting for elimination of various diseases deserve every appreciation, and the city government will extend them all cooperation.
She was talking to a visiting delegation led by President Pakistan Hypertension League, Prof Dr Mohammed Ishaq. The delegation members included Dr Khalid Hussain and Malik Mohammed Javed.
The delegation said that on May 19, International Hypertension Day is being observed and in this regard, they want to hold free medical camps in all towns to create awareness about high blood pressure. At these camps blood pressure, sugar, cholesterol etc would be checked free of cost.
They pointed out that at these free medical camps, morning teaching programmes have been scheduled for family physicians.
They requested the naib nazim to visit these medical camps and cooperate in organising them.
The delegation informed that according to a 1994 survey, some 18 per cent of the population over 15-years suffers from high blood pressure, while after 40 years every person should have their blood pressure regularly checked.
According to the delegation avoiding smoking along with exercising, reduced usage of salt and oil provides protection against blood pressure and other diseases.
Nasrin Jalil assured the delegation of all cooperation of city government and said that to attain positive results, it is essential that various NGOs, organizations and individuals should work together with the city government.—APP
