Fair Diamond gets fair deal at KRC
KARACHI, April 8: Three-year-old bay colt Fair Diamond lived up to his top billing when he land The Sprinter Cup 2007 as champion rider M. Nasir shone with a treble in the Gymkhana race meeting at the Karachi Racecourse on Sunday.
After having proved his mettle at Lahore recently the odds on favourite colt was on job and posted two-and-a-half lengths victory over Captain Black. He was smartly ridden home by Nasir.
Filly Phapha Kutni finished one-and-a-half length away to settle for third while mare Savabeel completed the frame after being beaten by another half length.
In an earlier race, riding on the crest of a wave, four-year-old bay colt Truf Shot having won four races on trot kept his winning record intact when he was home by two-and-a-half lengths under rider Nasir. He was followed by Black Girl, Awan and Arab Hi Arab.
Both Fair Diamond and Truf Shot were from the stables of Rajars and saddled by Mushtaq Ali Khan.
Nasir got his third winner on a platter when replacing Zaki Zakir he powered bay filly Sugar Sweet to seventh lengths victory in the seventh race.
Rider Arshad presented owner Shah Mardan Shah Pir Pagara with a winner by piloting second favourite mare Patricia to six lengths victory over Killer Instincts to claim honours in top division of class VII.
Outsider four-year-old colt Hamza Joy created a stir when he picked up spoils in the second race. The running of hot favourite Goroghantal by rider Fahim K left much to be desired as he finished off the board.
Bay mare Jadu Nagri who also came under heavy betting was beaten by two lengths to secure second place in a field of 13 runners after Nach Baliye was withdrawn.
Joint favourite mare Mixed Blessing pocketed the opener by posting a facile eight lengths victory over Tom Cruise. Earlier Sher-e-Awan was withdrawn from the race. Public suffered heavily when rider of Charlie Shahzad Shawani fell in front of co-favourite Breaking News thus depriving him of a better place.
Former champion rider Mohammad Essa stormed filly Gwenivare to a three-and-a-half lengths victory while mare Sweet Touch who was installed as favourite outpaced Be Jamalo to win honours.
Favourite King Of The Ring also obliged punters when he crossed the finishing post ahead of opponents to win the concluding event.
Earlier, the KRC administrator cancelled the ninth race after it was run following hue and cry by fans after the race.
