PESHAWAR, April 8: The United States will provide $1 million for the rehabilitation of border posts in several Frontier Regions.
A memorandum of understanding to this effect was signed between Pakistan and the United States here on Saturday.
A seven-member US Congressional delegation is currently on a visit to Pakistan.
The agreement is part of a joint plan to strengthen border security forces’ and raise an additional 50 platoons to protect 286km-long Frontier boundaries.
The signing of the MoU followed a US Embassy commitment last year to provide $2.7 million worth of security and communications equipment and infrastructure support.
Earlier, the US delegation handed over new communications equipment to the Frontier Corps, which was part of $15 million worth of equipment the United States had purchased for the Frontier Corps of NWFP and Balochistan since 2005.
US House Appropriations Sub-committee on State and Foreign Operations Chairperson Nita Lowey, who is leading the delegation, said on the occasion that Pakistan and United States had a long-term relationship and supporting the FC was part of that relationship.
