LARKANA, April 8: A prisoner, Anwar Gopang, 40, undergoing life imprisonment in a case related to karo-kari, died in the hospital of central prison Larkana where he was admitted after a fatal injury inflicted on him by an inmate on Sunday.

Ms Hajira and Roshan, mother and brother of the deceased, respectively, alleged that Anwar was tortured to death in the jail ward.

The Superintendent of the Central Prison Larkana, Abubakar Shaikh, however, contested their claim by saying that the deceased was lodged in the ward with another prisoner Mohammad Bachal Ghanghro who thrashed him causing profuse bleeding from his nose.

He was admitted in the jail hospital for treatment where he succumbed to injuries.

Both the prisoners were insane and kept in the same ward, the superintendent further said.
