NAUSHAHRO FEROZE, April 8: Scores of workers of different political and social organisations staged a rally on Sunday in protest against changing the name of Qazi Faiz Mohammad Road to Colonel (late) Meeran Shah Raod.

The protesters belonging to Qazi Faiz Mohammad Yadgar Committee, People’s Party Parliamentarians, Sindhi Adabi Sangat, Mehran Welfare Association and Sachal Adabi Society led by Qazi Sikandar, Ayaz Memon and Iqbal Gadhi marched on different roads of the town before terminating the rally at the press club.

The leaders charged that the change in name was the result of political rivalry and an MPA and a minister were behind the move. Qazi Faiz Mohammad was senior vice president of the then Awami League of Pakistan, a hari leader and writer and the road by his name was approved and constructed about 22 years ago.

The protesters demanded that the authorities concerned restore the name of the road as Qazi Faiz Mohammad Road.

POLICE RAID: Police raided six villages of Hisbani and Jatoi tribes in Mohabbat Dero Jatoi police station’s area and booked 37 persons on Sunday morning.

Police conducted raids on Hussain Hisbani, Haider Bux Hisbani, Razi Faqeer Hisbani, Fateh Ali Jatoi, Ahmedad Jatoi and Jehan Khan Jatoi villages. They searched houses and arrested 15 men belonging to Hisbani clan and 22 Jatois.

Police claimed to have found 10 guns, three rifles and eight pistols in the possession of arrested people.

A villager, Bali Khan Hisbani, whose house was one among those raided by police told journalists at Kandiaro that police insulted and beaten up the women and took away valuable belongings after the raid. They snatched Rs50,000 cash from an Ayaz Hisbani, he charged.

The DPO of Naushahro Feroze Irfan Baloch denied the charge and said that police did not take any cash or valuables from their houses after raid.

The DPO expressed fear of bloodshed in the area in the wake of killing of Hazoor Bux Gadhi who was manager of Riaz Hisbani about a month ago.
