ISLAMABAD, April 7: The Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz) has convened a meeting of its Central Working Committee (CWC) on Monday to review the prevailing political situation with particular reference to the ongoing judicial crisis.

Talking to Dawn on Saturday, PML-N information secretary Ahsan Iqbal said that the meeting had been convened keeping in view the gravity of the crisis being faced by the country owing to the faulty policies of the government.

Mr Iqbal said that his party’s leaders would discuss ways and means to support lawyers in their battle for the independence of judiciary and the rule of law. “We will see how we can mobilise general public on the judicial crisis,” he said, adding that the issue had become a national crisis.

He said the PML-N would also discuss the plan to bring all opposition parties to one platform on a single-point agenda of removing the present regime.

Replying to a question regarding reports that the PPP was about to strike a deal with the government, he said whenever the opposition parties’ movement was about to gain momentum, the government started a disinformation campaign.

He said the PPP had signed the Charter of Democracy and its leadership had assured PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif that the party would not strike a deal with the military regime.

Meanwhile, according to an announcement by the PML-N central secretariat, former prime minister Nawaz Sharif would deliver a telephonic address during the party’s CWC meeting.
