Fair Diamond set to shine at KRC today

KARACHI, April 7: Three-year-old bay colt Fair Diamond who had an excellent run at Lahore in the winter season is tipped to claim The Sprinter Cup 2007 when the Gymkhana race meeting resumes at the Karachi Racecourse on Sunday.

The five furlongs race restricted for Pakistani horses of three-year and upward, had a small field of six contestants barring last minute withdrawl.

The consistent form of highly bred Fair Diamond suggests that he should dominate the race and oblige punters.

He is likely to be chased by filly Abhi Abhi and mare Savabeel for the places.

With four wins under his belt, four-year-old bay colt Truf Shot is rated to stretch his winning run. His likely challengers among eight aspirants are filly Black Girl and bay horse Arab Hi Arab.

Six-year-old chestnut Sharp Cat who finished a good second on March 25 should make amends by crossing the finishing post ahead of rivals in the top division of class VII.

Patricia and Killer Instincts should battle it out for the following two places.

Champion rider M. Nasir should sprint eight-year-old bay gelding Sher-e-Awan to victory in the opener while five-year-old grey horse Goroghantal is our fancy to land the second race.

If allowed to run on merit, nine-year-old bay horse Trust Again should emerged victorious. Its rider Shahid Manan and trainer A. Hanan were penalised by the Racing Committee for ‘unsatisfactory riding’ in the last run on March 18. The entry of horse was also stopped for one month which completes after 10 days. By allowing it to appear on Sunday will be clear violation of rules.

Three-year-old chestnut filly, Rebecca who posted a facile win in the last meeting is our fancy to repeat the feat.

Fillies - Be Jamalo, Hi Darling and Gul Bano - are favourites in the last three races.

Meanwhile, it is need of the hour that Racing Committee should strictly enforce punishments rather then waving off if it was sincere to clean the sport.
