Headingley tipped to make amends today

LAHORE, April 7: Three-year-old colt Headingley, who was beaten closely in his previous outing, should make amends this time and win the supporting event during the Lahore Winter Meeting at the Racecourse on Sunday.

He is contesting in the fifth race, the Muridke Plate class IV division 11 handicap event to be gone over 1300 metres.

Running in the silks of Lahore Race Club (LRC) chairman, Tariq Aziz, the colt from Bletch Dancer out-of-Dandy Again, Headingley was beaten by three-fourth of a length from Dil Vil on March 25 last. After the race, Shahid Rehman, the rider of Headingley had lodged an objection against the winner for crossing but was turned down by the LRC stewards.

Jut Bahadur and Quince may fight for the second place among six acceptors, if there are no last-minute withdrawals.

The feature event, the Muridke Plate class IV division 1 to be gone over 1300m has six runners barring last-minute withdrawals. In this race, the three-year-old filly, Flying Pet is well placed in the handicap to oblige her connections.

After winning fantastically four races in a row, Flying Pet was beaten by Tipu Sultan on March 18 last. She looks set to avenge her defeat and win this time. Top Cat though placed awkwardly on top weight and lowly placed Dil Vil should fight for the less remunerative positions.

Five-year-old horse Red Hot Fire, who raced beautifully on his previous outings finishing good second, seems a hard nut to crack in the first race having eleven runners. Fruity and Rough Tough are the next best over 1200 metres.Miss Photogenic and Royal Fish are the form females among the six drawn for the second race Muridke Plate class IV division 111 over 1300m . The way the former won on Wednesday last and with added advantage on classification she should win.

Three-year-old filly, Magic Stone, who had opened her debut last time out with a facile win, will be on the course to make it two in a row in the third race. She should be followed by the colt Salman Prince and Iconic.

Sher-e-Lahore, who was beaten narrowly in his previous outing on Wednesday last should emerge victorious this time in the fourth race. Royal King and Shim Jim should follow Sher-e-Lahore.

A six-event card has been drawn up for the connoisseurs of the equine sports. In all, 50 acceptors are to face starter in the events, three to races are be gone over 1200m and three over 1300m.

The first race will be held at 2.30pm.

Win: Red Hot Fire.

Place: Rough Tough and Fruity.

MURIDKE PLATE CLASS IV

DIV 111 1300M:

Royal Fish 9-2, Miss Photogenic 9-0, Armida 8-7, Desert Queen 7-13, Cross Ruff 7-8 and Volcano 7-8.

Win: Miss Photogenic.

Place: Royal Fish.

SHAHDARA PLATE CLASS V

DIV 11-A 1200M:

Prince Salman 9-2, Speed Demon 9-0, Baker Love 9-0, Love Affair 9-0, Willhewish 9-0, Darnaz 9-0, Poly Cat 9-0, Magic Stone 8-12, Iconic 8-11 Untar 8-9 and Dream Land 8-9.

Win: Magic Stone.

Place: Prince Salman and Iconic.
