Balochistan CM to take up matter with Aziz: Absence of federal govt officials from meetings

QUETTA, April 7: The Balochistan government has taken serious notice of the absence of officials of some federal departments from meetings of the provincial government and decided to approach Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz in this regard.
A high-level meeting was held on Friday to review the pace of work on various development projects in the new port city of Gwadar and other parts of the province. The meeting was presided over by Chief Minister Jam Mohammad Yousuf.
Official sources said that none of the officials of the Gwadar Port Authority (GPA), National Highway Authority (NHA) and other federal government departments concerned attended the meeting that took important decisions on development of Gwadar city.
The meeting observed that officials of the GPA, NHA and some other departments of the federal government ignored the orders of the Balochistan government and did not take interest in attending its meetings or implement its decisions. The meeting decided to bring the matter to the notice of the prime minister.
It approved allotment of land for various development projects in Gwadar.
The meeting also took notice of the protests and resentment of the people of Gwadar about not giving jobs to local populace in the Gwadar Port Authority and certain federal departments. It was decided to approach the federal ministries concerned for ensuring recruitment of local people.
The meeting approved PC-1 of the GDA for various development projects aimed at providing basic infrastructure.
It also approved some new vacancies for Gwadar Development Authority and regularised the services of some employees who were recruited on daily wage basis. The GDA officials were directed that all vacancies should be filled on merit.
The meeting approved a project worth Rs150 million for the construction of central mosque, library and community hall for women.
The meeting while reviewing projects of the Balochistan Coastal Development Authority approved its budget of Rs48.7 million.
Quetta City Nazim Maqbool Lehri and the Quetta Development Authority director-general informed the meeting about their development plans and projects.
The chief minister directed them that the bus and truck stands should be shifted to Hazarjangi area without further delay.
