KARACHI: Power cuts continue unabated

By A Reporter

KARACHI, April 6: Residents of various localities complained of power suspensions on Friday while the Karachi Electric Supply Corporation claims that power supply situation has improved.

A complainant from Gulshan-i-Umair said power supply to his locality was suspended at 9am and was not restored till 6.30pm. He said his area was not included in the notified shutdown schedule and KESC staff on helpline 118 avoided telling about the breakdown.

Residents of Orangi Town Sector 11-1/2 said power supply to Raees Amrohvi Colony and Toori Bangash Colony was suspended at 3pm and restored at 6pm.

A consumer from Qasba Colony said power supply to the area was suspended at 11am and was restored at 1pm. He said power supply was again suspended at 5pm and restored at 7pm.

He asked the officials of Karachi Electric Supply Corporation to notify the loadshedding schedule.

A complainant said power supply to F.C Area was suspended at 9am and was restored at 4pm. He said water was also not supplied to the area due to the prolonged power suspension.

Another complainant from Haroonabad SITE Town said power supply to the locality was suspended at 9am and was restored at 2.20.

He said the prolonged power suspensions had made public lives miserable, saying that KESC officials were duty bound to maintain smooth power supply.

When contacted, the KESC spokesman said at present the Water and Power Development Authority was supplying 500 out of 650 megawatts electricity. He said the shortfall would be covered very soon, adding that there was a shortage of 70 to 75 MW power.

He said 45 minutes to one hour loadshedding was being observed after 7.30pm to midnight.
