NA body defers disaster management bill

ISLAMABAD, April 5: A meeting of the National Assembly Standing Committee on Cabinet Secretariat on Thursday, while discussing the National Disaster Management Bill 2006, decided to defer the bill on the grounds that a copy of the resolution may be provided to the committee regarding the offices which are already working for the provincial affairs, says a press release.

On the other hand, the committee discussed the National School of Public Policy Bill 2006 in detail and after discussion it was unanimously decided that the bill may be passed as introduced in the National Assembly.

The committee, which was presided over by Ahmed Raza Maneka, also considered the National Vocational and Technical Education Commission Bill 2006 and after a very lengthy discussion the committee came on the conclusion unanimously that the bill may also be passed as it was introduced in the National Assembly.

Secretary establishment gave a detailed briefing on the Staff Welfare Organization (SWO) and it was informed to the committee that the SWO is an attached department of the Establishment Division set up to look after the welfare of the federal government employees.

The government, through annual budgetary allocation, is providing funds for the SWO, which has established a scheme by the government to enable the children of low paid government servant to acquire educational and professional qualification which otherwise would not have been possible for them.

SWO has also established ladies industrial homes to provide opportunities to female dependents of government servants to acquire useful and remunerative skills.

Chairman of the committee admired the efforts of the SWO and assured them that the NA body is ready to support them in their future planning.

The meeting was also attended by Shahid Akram Bhinder, Malik Allahyar Khan, Raja Mohammad Asad Khan, Oneza Ehsan, Begum Bushra Rehman, Rehman Naseer Chaudhry, Nawab Mohammad Yousaf Talpur, Abdul Mujeeb Pirzada, Raja Pervaiz Ashraf, Samia Raheel Qazi and Abid Ali Umang.
