SWABI, April 5: The district government has allocated Rs14.7 million for a sport complex and a cinema hall for women.

Sources told Dawn on Thursday that work on the two projects would be started in the current year.

They said that Rs12.5 million had been allocated for the construction of sport complex which was a longstanding demand of the sport lovers.

The complex will be constructed in Shahmansoor Township and about 100 kanal of land has already been acquired by the district government for it.

Sources said that some people and leaders were creating hurdles, but the district nazim made it clear that he would go ahead with the project.

A cinema hall will be constructed for women at a cost of Rs2.2 million under the women development project in Shahmansoor Township.

The land for the cinema has been acquired.

The district government also plans to construct shopping plazas in Shahmansoor, near the district nazim office, but a final decision has not been taken yet in this regard.

It was one of the priorities of the district government to make Shahmansoor a hub of activities as the whole district administration and machinery would be shifted there.

District Nazim Shahram Khan said that natural gas would be provided to all areas in the district.

Speaking at a meeting on Thursday, he said the federal government had provided all possible support to the district government and both President Pervez Musharraf and Prime Minister had already visited the district.
