Probe begins into blasphemy case against five Christians

TOBA TEK SINGH, April 4: District police officer Raja Munawar Hussain on Wednesday deputed Investigation SP Zaheer Ahmad Bajwa to investigate charges levelled against five Christians in a blasphemy case registered on April 1.

Police had registered a case under sections 295A, 295C, 452, 148 and 149 of CrPc and two of the accused -- Salamat Maseeh and Baboo Maseeh -- were charged with forcibly removing a religious sticker from the pocket of Faisal Gulzar and allegedly trampling it under his feet. The other accused have been charged with attacking the house of Faisal Gulzar and torturing male and female members of his family.

When contacted, Catholic church priest Fr Bonnie Mendes said the case registered against the five youths was based on a fabricated incident.
