LAHORE, April 3: The first formal meeting of the World Cup performance evaluation committee will be held at the Gaddafi Stadium here on Wednesday.

The committee headed by former Test cricketer Ijaz Butt, was formed by Pakistan Cricket Board on Saturday to evaluate national team’s dismal performance in the ongoing World Cup.

Ijaz, talking to Dawn, said the first meeting would be an introductory one and all the members would get together to finalise a policy that could help them to go about their work in a professional manner and to finish it on time.

He added that confidentiality would be the first priority and that was why he had decided not to hire any staff from the PCB to assist the committee.

He also added that all players of the Pakistan World Cup squad and team management members would be summoned before the body to give an account of things that led to disaster in the Caribbean.

According to Ijaz, the committee would also hold meetings in Karachi, Islamabad and Peshawar in order to record statements of veteran and current members of the Pakistan team, besides consulting representatives of regional bodies.

Besides, journalists and members of the Senate Standing Committee on Sports could also be called in to record their comments over the defeat. And if necessary even the PCB chairman Dr Nasim Ashraf would appear before the committee.

The other members of the committee include former Test cricketers Salahuddin ‘Sallu’ and Saleem Altaf.
