NEW DELHI, April 3: Senior members of the Indian cricket team are planning to confront coach Greg Chappell's allegations with some stern steps of their own, leading newspaper The Hindu reported on Tuesday.
According to a report, the players are keen to set up a meeting with BCCI President Sharad Pawar to make their case following the Aussie coach’s remarks that “this was not the best side selected for the World Cup and that they (senior Indian players) blocked the path of youngsters.”
It has been a week since the players came back from the Carribean, and now the senior players are planning to meet the Board officials to present their side of the picture before the BCCI meets the team management and ex-captains this week.
The paper goes on to say that Sachin Tendulkar is being pressurised to take a stand on behalf of the seniors who have apparently admitted to a complete lack of communication with the coach.
According to The Hindu, Tendulkar has not been on talking terms with the coach and most of the other players have chosen the same path. The paper quotes a senior player as saying, "He has destroyed the confidence of the team and made everyone insecure. He has been a great player but does it mean he has the right to make others feel small?"
But it isn't just the players who are up in arms against Chappell. An unnamed selector is quoted as saying, "How can he accuse anyone of not giving him the team he wanted? He has had all cooperation from us and it is not fair to say that one player not being there made the difference. Please check the record."—Agencies
