Pervaiz all praise for advocates

LAHORE, April 3: Chief Minister Pervaiz Elahi has said by refusing to become a tool of opposition, the lawyers have proved that they will not allow self-motivated elements to politicise a constitutional and legal issue.

Talking to journalists on Tuesday, he said the legal community had shown a highly professional attitude by keeping self-interested politicians away from its protest demonstrations, says a handout.

The chief minister said the opposition’s campaign against the government had flopped, and it should learn a lesson from its failures and give up agitational politics. The people had also proved that they had complete confidence in the Muslim League government, he said.

He said President Musharraf had announced that he would accept the decision of the Supreme Judicial Council, and after his assurance there was no room for any doubt over the chief justice’s issue.

BASHARAT: Provincial Law Minister Basharat Raja said the government had decided to give a free hand to lawyers and politicians for a protest.

In a statement, the minister said the lawyers by keeping the politicians away from their protest, had displayed their professional responsibility. He said people had foiled the opposition’s campaign against the government, and despite a free hand, it could not muster their support.
