Uniform policy for varsities suggested

By Our Correspondent

KOHAT, April 3: A meeting of the NWFP vice-chancellors held here on Monday proposed a uniform policy and curriculum for government universities.

The meeting was held at the Kohat University of Science and Technology.

It discussed tenure of various degrees and called for one schedule for examinations and admissions throughout the province.

The VCs decided to present their recommendations to the chancellor for approval and meet regularly to suggest reforms to the provincial government and the Higher Education Commission.

According to a press release, the participants said that a harmonised system of examinations and admissions right from the matriculation up to master’s would be prepared with consultations of all stake holders.

They also called for setting up quality enhancement cells in affiliated colleges of the province in coordination with the HEC.

They discussed a four-year bachelor degree programme and said it would be introduced in a selected college to serve as a model for its phased introduction in other institutions.

They proposed creation of provincial academy of sciences under the ministry of science and technology to provide a forum for scientists of the NWFP.

They decided to suggest certain changes in the existing acts and ordinances of universities on the management side in the next meeting.
