Need stressed for fighting polio jointly

PESHAWAR, April 3: NWFP Chief Secretary Sahibzada Riaz Noor has called upon ulema, elders, opinion leaders, Maliks, public representatives, police and officials of line departments to jointly work for eradication of polio from the province and tribal areas.

Speaking at a meeting on the prevalence of polio cases in the NWFP and tribal areas on Monday, he said that all quarters concerned should extend their support for eradication of polio and added that coordinated efforts would certainly help achieve the target.

The IGP, additional chief secretary, secretary health, DG health, DCOs, political agents, representatives of WHO and Unicef also attended the meeting.

He said the health authorities should take into confidence ulema and people concerned well before starting the vaccination campaign.

He said that there should be no problem if the activities were carried out properly.

He appreciated the efforts of WHO, Unicef and all quarters concerned who were working for eradication of polio from the province and Fata.

The secretary health gave presentation about the prevalence of polio and the obstacles being faced in this respect.

Mr Riaz Noor gave certificates to DCOs and political agents for their active role in the polio eradication campaigns.
