LAHORE, April 2: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Dr Nasim Ashraf is likely to be summoned by three-member committee formed to evaluate the performance of Pakistan in the ongoing World Cup to find the real reasons behind the debacle.
Dawn learnt on Monday that the PCB had accepted all demands of the committee which had asked for maximum powers which meant that any person, including the PCB chairman, could be called in for questioning to put together the findings in a professional way and without any pressure.
The committee, headed by former Test cricket Ijaz Butt, was formed last Saturday and were entrusted with the task of completing its findings in 30 days. The other two members of the committee are former Test cricketers Salim Altaf and Salahuddin ‘Sallu’.
The other prominent peoples who could be summoned during probe are former chief selector Wasim Bari, former Pakistan captain Inzamam-ul-Haq, manager Talat Ali Malik, other members of the team management and few other cricketers who were part of the World Cup squad.
Pakistan failed to qualify for the Super Eights stage after facing successive defeats at the hands of hosts West Indies and minnows Ireland in the first round.
Inzamam and Bari are likely to face some key questions in this regard. Bari, who tendered his resignation after the disaster, admitted that he was not free in making decisions since the captain had put some pressure in this regard, an allegation which was neither denied nor accepted by Inzamam.
