Benazir to return after announcement of pollsschedule, says Qaim

By Our Correspondent

LARKANA, April 2: The People’s Party Parliamentarians (PPP) Sindh President Syed Qaim Ali Shah said on Monday that Ms Benazir Bhutto would land in the country the moment election schedule either for general elections or the presidential elections was announced.

Mr Shah said speaking to journalists at the district bar room that the year 2007 would prove to be a year of elections and return of Ms Bhutto. The rulers had taken action against the chief justice of Pakistan on political grounds but were now alleging political parties for politicising the issue, he said.

He said that the PPP was fully supported the lawyers’ cause for the supremacy of constitution.

To a question about Makhdoom Jameeluzzaman's remarks about Nisar Ahmed Khuhro, leader of opposition in Sindh Assembly, Mr Shah said that Mr Khuhro was doing well in the assembly and outside the assembly and Makhdoom himself had now retracted his statement.

Mr Shah said that summoning Sindh Assembly's session on April 4 spoke volumes about the government’s ill intentions because the government was sure all the PPP members would be absent on the day due to death anniversary of their party leader Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto in Garhi Khuda Bakhsh.

“I had never seen this kind of assembly in my entire experience as MNA and MPA,” he said. The assembly had not done any legislation from December to April with its sessions prorogued time and again on the most flimsy grounds, he remarked.

Mr Shah said that a mushaira would be part of the anniversary in which poets would pay tribute to the dynamic leadership of late Z. A. Bhutto and intellectuals would read papers on different aspects of Bhutto's life on the day.

Yusif Raza Gillani and Shah Mehmood Qureshi would be key speakers in the absence of Makhdoom Amin Faheem who would be busy in Islamabad participating in lawyers protest in April 3, he said.

One-minute silence would be observed at 12.12 am midnight of April 3 and 4 when Z. A. Bhutto was hanged followed by live speech of the party chairperson Ms Benazir Bhutto, he said.

He said that the party’s central executive committee and federal council would meet on April 3 in Naudero and take stock of the prevailing situation.

PPP-SB: The PPP (Shaheed Bhutto) has chalked out a separate programme to observe the 28th death anniversary of the party’s founder on April 4, which would be addressed by the party’s chairperson Ghinwa Bhutto in Garhi Khuda Bakhsh Bhutto.
