Jirga set up to settle tribal disputes, says Qazi
PESHAWAR, April 2: The Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal (MMA) has set up a jirga to resolve disputes among tribesmen in the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (Fata). This was stated by Qazi Hussain Ahmed while addressing the MMA’s provincial executive council here on Sunday.
Qazi Hussain said that the government had adopted a divide-and-rule policy in the North and South Waziristan agencies, creating misunderstandings among the tribesmen.
“The MMA condemns such a policy and will foil conspiracies against tribesmen,” a press release issued here on Monday quoted Qazi Hussain as saying. NWFP Chief Minister Akram Khan Durrani, provincial ministers and other MMA leaders attended the meeting.He said that the jirga, comprising parliamentarians and ulema from the tribal areas, had been constituted to resolve all disputes, including the turmoil in the South Waziristan. He said that the alliance would use its influence to restore peace in the tribal belt.
Qazi Hussain said that some forces were hatching conspiracies to create divisions among the component parties of the six-party alliance and urged workers to ignore differences to strengthen MMA further.—Bureau
