PML rejects protest call

Published April 3, 2007

LAHORE, April 2: The Lahore PML has rejected the opposition’s protest call for Tuesday, saying it is irresponsible to bring people to the streets on what is purely a judicial matter. The nation condemns the call, says a statement issued after a party meeting here on Monday. Mian Munir Ahmad presided over the meeting.

Many of the Lahore legislators did not turn up despite being invited. Similarly, only one nazim out of eight was present at the meeting.

Mian Munir, unhappy over the situation, said he would take up the issue regarding lack of interest by the legislators and nazims with the chief minister.

The purpose of the meeting was to distribute President Musharraf’s book among the legislators.

It is said that one of the MPs was of the view that the decision to distribute the book was too late —Staff Reporter
