Flood leaves dozens of families homeless

By Our Correspondent

PARACHINAR, March 31: Torrential rains followed by hailstorm and heavy flood in river Kurram played havoc with property in Kurram Agency on Saturday and rendered dozens of families homeless, officials said.

The administration had declared emergency in the area and called in troops to assist in the relief operation, Political Agent Sahibzada Mohammad Anees said.

He said the flash flood had inundated many villages and agricultural land but no casualty had been reported.

The mountainous areas of the valley received heavy rain and hailstorm on Friday night, which caused flood in the river Kurram and other rainwater courses.

Officials said more than 1,000 villages had been affected along the banks of the river.

Severe hailstorm destroyed crops and orchards and the river was still in high flood. Ahmadzai was the worst hit area.
