KARACHI, March 31: Five-year-old chestnut Terrorist who finished off the board in the last three outings sprang a big surprise when he lowered the colours of public fancy filly Lady Conqueror in the Gymkhana race meeting at the Karachi Racecourse on Saturday.

Terrorist, who was among those who also ran in the preceding three races, ran like a champion denying Lady Conqueror to make it two on trot.

The horse from the stables of Shah Mardan Shah Pir Pagara galloped to four lengths victory with Zaki Zakir astride. Gwenivare was placed third while Arab Hi Arab completed the frame.

Four-year-old chestnut colt Sindh Malook who became odds on favourite when the betting commenced claimed feature event when he posted a facile three-length victory over mare Savabeel to register hat trick.

They were closely followed by Captain Black and Tharkyee.

As predicted, nine-year-old mare Piyari Mehbooba, 10-year-old chestnut Thanks Naeem and five-year-old bay horse Lucky Friend obliged punters by claiming long overdue victories.

Rider Asghar Ali piloted three-year-old filly Rebecca to three lengths victory while four-year-old bay colt The Concord atoned to earlier losses to win honours.

In a display of in and out running, four-year-old chestnut Dr. Dre picked up spoils as he pleased in the seventh race edging out Sher-e-Awan by two-and-a-half lengths.

His triumph has raised quite a few eye brows as after winning glory on March 18 he failed to finish on the board in the next run and again beat the entire field on Saturday.

Outsider bay horse Azam The Great created quite a stir when he toppled public fancy Goroghantal by one-and-a-half length.

Similarly, four-year-old bay colt Khyber in a late burst came from behind to stun favourite filly Queen Of Mirwa by four lengths.

Rider Mohammad Yousuf came out with a brace of winners – Thanks Naeem and Lucky Friend.

Meanwhile, the Racing Committee took stern action against riders of Moment To Moment II (M. Amjad) and Burnish Pride (Tahir Ali) for unsatisfactory riding in the eighth race. The former was fined Rs50,000 besides withdrawing his licence while a fine of Rs20,000 was imposed on the latter in addition to one month suspension.

Both the horses were heavily backed by public when betting opened but failed to deliver the goods. The step was welcomed by fans who hoped that the punishment will not be waived as has been the practice in the past.

In addition, rider of Princess Rozi, Mumtaz Ali, was fined Rs5,000 with one month suspension for unsatisfactory riding in the concluding race.
