‘Drug trafficking to end’

HYDERABAD, March 31: The Sindh Excise Department will hold consultations with Balochistan and Punjab for containing drug trafficking and in this regard an integrated plan with the officials of these two provinces will also be prepared.

This was state by Secretary Excise and Taxation Iqbal Bablani while briefing journalists in the office of Director Excise and Taxation Kanwar Amir Jameel here on Saturday.

Though, he said, narcotics are not produced in Sindh but the province serves as a route to traffickers as drug barons belong to a highly influential class.

He said about 2-1/2kg of heroin worth Rs25 million in international market was recovered from Juma Khaskheli son of Ubhayao during a raid at a den, operated by Noor Mohammad alias Noora on Bukera road Tando Allahyar. The accused was produced before the journalists. He said, recently the G-3 rifles were provided and it was for the first time in the 30 years of history that such sophisticated weapons were given to excise police which otherwise were used by the army and rangers personnel. He said, the excise force seized huge quantity of charas in Kandhkot and Nawabshah this week.—BoC
