KARACHI: Security for Eid Milad

KARACHI, March 31: Sindh Home Adviser Waseem Akhtar said that security measures similar to those taken on Ashura have been ordered for Eid Milad-un-Nabi (Pbuh) to ensure foolproof law and order situation.

Addressing a press conference on Saturday, he noted that there was information about some disturbances, hence security was beefed up.

He said on the whole, about 6,000 additional troops of rangers and police had been deployed. Of the total, 4,000 personnel would be deployed in Jamshed and Saddar Towns.

“Like Ashura, aerial monitoring will be performed via helicopters in Karachi. Checkpoints have been set up at inter-provincial and inter-city borders and security persons (have been) assigned to handle any untoward situation,” the adviser said.

He noted that in addition to this, deployment of police and enforcement agencies’ personnel in plainclothes would also be carried out for strict vigilance.

The adviser said that secret surveillance cameras were also installed along procession routes and at walkthrough gates of the place of congregation.

“Trained dogs will be used to detect explosives,” he said.He appealed to Ulema and citizens to cooperate with law-enforcement personnel. The adviser informed town control rooms would be set up.

He said that two control rooms would be set up in Nishtar Park to monitor the internal and outer situation.

Mr Akhtar said an additional deployment of 4,000 personnel had been called in from Hyderabad, out of which 1,500 would help in improving security arrangements of the city while 12 platoons were also summoned from Police Headquarters, Sukkur region.

To a question about last year’s Nishtar Park carnage, he said interrogations in this regard were in progress.—PPI
