KARACHI: PMAP slams arrest of workers

By Our Staff Reporter

KARACHI, March 25: Leaders of the Pakhtunkhwa Milli Awami Party have condemned the arrest of party activists in the interior of Sindh and demanded their immediate release.

In a statement issued here on Sunday, they alleged that a raid was conducted by police in Nawan Goth, near Sukkur, under the directives of an ethnic party supporting the government to arrest PMAP leaders Haji Adam Khan and Yusuf Khan, as well as 40 other party members.

They further alleged that the police party also took away a big amount of cash and other valuables from their houses and was now demanding money for the detainees’ release.

According to the statement, the arrested PMAP members were being pressured to join the ethnic party.

It claimed that the ethnic party had earlier tried to exert pressure on the PMAP supporters living in Karachi but the attempt was foiled. “Now the Pakhtuns living in the interior of Sindh were being forced to join that party,” it added.

The PMAP leaders have demanded that all its arrested workers be released and their belongings be restored to them. They also demanded a high level inquiry into the matter and action against those involved.
