KARACHI: Govt will accept SJC verdict: PM

By Shamim-ur-Rahman

KARACHI, March 21: Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz said here on Wednesday that the reference against the Chief Justice was filed in the Supreme Judicial Council after meeting all constitutional requirements.

Presiding over a high-level meeting held to review the law and order situation, particularly in Sindh, Mr Aziz said the government believed in the supremacy of law and would accept the Supreme Judicial Council’s verdict.

The prime minister attended the meeting at Governor’s House soon after arriving in the city from Gwadar. Governor Dr Ishrat-ul-Ebad, Chief Minister Dr Arbab Ghulam Rahim, Federal Minister for Ports and Shipping Babar Khan Ghouri and Minister of State for Information Senator Tariq Azim, attended.

A press release issued by the Press Information Department said the prime minister stressed that every effort be made to ensure safety and security of the citizens. However, well-placed sources said the participants’ overriding concern was the growing public unrest over the CJP issue, and its use by political parties.
