Farhan’s comeback spoiled by Yousuf : National Snooker

By A Sports Correspondent

KARACHI, March 1: Bespectacled Farhan Mirza made an unimpressive return to the domestic circuit losing 2-4 to veteran Mohammad Yousuf in his opening tie of the 32nd National Snooker Championship which commenced on Thursday at Karachi Gymkhana.

Playing in the second session, the second seed Yousuf had no difficulty as he was home 73-26, 69-21, 24-84, 44-66, 66-16 and 58-0.

Earlier, title holder and top seed Khurram Agha conceded three frames to low profile Mohammad Riaz in registering 4-3 triumph. The scores were 64-30, 82-24, 25-69, 75-23, 56-68, 62-69 and 53-8.

Playing on adjacent table third seed Naveen Perwani, winner of Latif Masters last year, whipped NWFP’s Abdul Jalil 4-0. Similarly, fourth seed Imran Shehzad defeated Mohammad Ali Zaidi by the identical scoreline.

Meanwhile, Dawn was not officially provided fixtures of the event which commenced on Thursday. After repeated efforts this reporter managed to contact a responsible person at the Karachi Club on telephone Wednesday night for filing curtain-raiser who communicated wrong fixtures that does not match the actual one. Similarly, the second day’s fixtures are missing in the newspaper as no PBSA official bothered. Dawn regret for publishing the wrong fixtures in its March 1 issue.
