By Our Correspondent

HARIPUR, Feb 27: The Haripur District Council in a unanimously-adopted resolution on Tuesday rejected the plan to merge six union councils of PF-49 Haripur with the capital territory, Islamabad.

The resolution, tabled by Jabri union council nazim Malik Taj, termed the step unconstitutional and without the consent of the people of the six union councils –Jabri, Barkot, Najafpur, Tofkian, Khanpur and Pind Kamal Khan.

District Nazim Yousaf Ayub Khan said the district government would not allow the federal government to include six union councils of Haripur in Islamabad.

“We won’t allow them to take even a single village from our side, leave the plan of six UCs,” he said.

In another unanimously-adopted resolution, the district council demanded removal of the district officer, school and literacy department, Mr Abbass.

The council also approved a fund of Rs2.2 million for a gender development project under which skill development, vocational and mother and childcare centres for women would be set up.

Shahid Amin Khan demanded removal of encroachments in the district. He also said educational institutions should be provided with required furniture.

Ali Khan union council nazim Abdul Salam expressed dissatisfaction over the performance of private educational institutes of Haripur, saying a majority of private schools were lacking basic amenities like water, playgrounds, lavatories and even furniture.
